Checking Out Materials

Information regarding book limits, loan periods, overdue books, fines, periodicals, recalls, and suspension of borrowing privileges.

Book Limits
Undergraduates of The Claremont Colleges, 5th-year students, CST students, Emeriti and retired Claremont Colleges faculty, and visiting scholars » » »  Up to 60 books at any given time
Claremont Graduate University students » » »  Up to 140 books at any given time
Adjunct faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges; faculty and staff of affiliate institutions » » »  Up to 100 books at any given time

Loan Periods

Overdue Books
It is the responsibility of borrowers from all categories to be aware of the due date of each book borrowed. Bookmarks that indicate the due date are available at the check-out counter. When a book is overdue by 10 days, the borrower will receive a bill for $100 which includes the book’s replacement cost and a billing fee of $10. If the book is returned, the replacement cost is refunded but the billing fee remains.

Periodicals

Current (unbound) periodicals do not circulate.

Bound periodicals circulate at designated times in Honnold/Mudd and Denison libraries only to students, staff and faculty of The Claremont Colleges. Honnold/Mudd periodicals and videos are loaned only to students, staff and faculty of The Claremont Colleges. Videos circulate for a 3-day loan period and have a two-titles-at-a-time maximum. They are fined on the same schedule as Reserve items.


Recalls
All books are subject to recall by Claremont Colleges' students, faculty and staff. All borrowers are guaranteed at least a 2-week loan period of use before the book is due because of a recall. Overdue recalled books are fined $1.00 per day. Borrowing privileges are suspended when a recalled book is overdue.

Suspension of Borrowing Privileges
An unpaid bill of $100 suspends student, staff and faculty borrowing privileges. All other borrowers must pay all money due before borrowing or renewing.
