Citation Linker Help

What Citation Linker does

When you have a citation (i.e. information that identifies an article, such as title, author, journal title, volume, and so on) for an article that you would like to read, use Citation Linker to find that article online, if the Libraries own it. Note: The electronic journals accessed via Citation Linker are available off-campus only to students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges.

How to use it

Enter as much information as possible into the form, including:

  • Full journal title and/or ISSN is required; abbreviations for journals will not work, so if all you have is an abbreviation and do not know what the full title is, look in JournalSeek, an index of journal titles and their abbreviations.
  • Article title
  • Volume
  • Issue
  • Year
  • Starting page
  • Author's last name

If you are not sure you have a complete article title or that you are spelling it correctly, try variations of the title, particularly where common alternatives are concerned (e.g. "and" vs. "&").

What if it doesn't work

Some things to try if you still cannot find a citation in Citation Linker:

  • Try searching our e-journal portal for the journal title.
  • Search Blais for the journal title; we may own the journal in print.
  • Ask for assistance if you are in the library or use our online Ask a Librarian service for assistance in locating your article.
  • Fill out an InterLibrary Loan request.

Other tips on using Citation Linker:

  • There are a variety of reasons why you may not find your article: there may not be electronic full text for the citation, or we may not subscribe to the e-journal that provides it, or we may subscribe to the journal but our coverage may not include the year of the citation.
  • Some e-journals, while providing full text, do not link to the article level directly; you may need to search within a journal to find the article matching your citation.
  • One item in your citation may be incorrect, causing your entire search to come up empty. Try including only the journal title or ISSN (being the most unique identifiers) and then, if necessary, refine your search by including other details, one at a time.
