For a Variety of Company Annual Report Information

LexisNexis Academic  
(Coverage dates vary by publication; most begin post-1980. This resource is available outside the Libraries only to students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges.) Lexis-Nexis provides full text access to Annual Reports and 10-K's through the Business Library.

  • For Annual Reports: In Business, under "SEC Filings and Reports", type the company name in the search box, then under "Source" select "SEC Annual Reports to Shareholders". Actual link: SEC Reports

Also try Hoovers Online. Annual reports can often be found at the Company Web site. To find the company web site, use Hoovers. Hoovers' has lots of good information about companies. Some links are subscription, but many are free. Hoovers can also be linked through ABI Inform.

  • For 10-K's (Disclosure Reports):

LexisNexis Academic  
In Academic Universe, select Business then select "SEC Filings and Reports" . To Search for a report on a company, type the company name (for example, "Motorola") in the search space and then in "Source" select "SEC 10K Reports". Select the most recent report and display.


To Search Specific Databases for Information on Companies

To search for directory, general information articles and investment reports on a company

ABI/Inform Global (1985-present) Companies mentioned in articles in ABI Inform/Global that are highlighted in blue contain links to Hoovers, a database of company reports and information. Click on the company name from within the article, and links to abbreviated Hoovers' database entries is provided. Hoovers is also available for free on the Web.ABI/Inform/Global is also a database that indexes journal articles. Please see under Information on Companies/Journal and Newspaper articles.

To Search for a Summary of Performance, Financial and Investment Information

Valueline Investment Survey Online   Valueline is an online version of the Valueline Investment Survey in paper. This resource provides graphs and charts of financial information on companies that sell stock. Includes many small market capitalization stocks. This database is available only in the search center of the Honnold/Mudd library where the password can be obtained from the librarian at the reference desk.
 

  • Valueline Investment Survey (Loose-leaf - Kept at Honnold/Mudd Information Desk - updates online)
     
  • The Value Line Investment Survey (At Honnold-Mudd Information Desk) Provides graphs and charts of financial information on companies that sell stock.
     
  • The Value Line Investment Survey Expanded Edition (At Honnold-Mudd Information Desk) Provides graphs and charts of financial information on companies that sell stock. Includes many small market capitalization stocks.


To find a particular company:

Use the index at the front of the loose-leaf notebook. Look up "Motorola" alphabetically, and note the section (section 7).
Find section 7 in the loose-leaf notebook: note the page number for "Motorola" and turn to the section.

Look at the chart to note stock performance over a time period.

For instructions on how to read "Value Line Investment Survey" there is a guide to using the Value Line Investment Survey called: "How to Invest in Common Stocks: The Complete Guide to Using the Value Line Investment Survey" and is a light blue notebook shelved next to the black Value Line Investment Survey loose-leaf volumes at the Information Desk.

To Search for Resources for Industry Research

Standard & Poors Net Advantage (Industry Surveys & Stock Reports)
This is a Web site that allows online access to the very popular Industry Surveys and Stock Reports Industry Surveys give a nice overview of large industries, and often provide statistics on the top companies in the industry. The Stock Reports also give latest financial update on stock data, as well as historical data. Available only to users at the Claremont Colleges or connecting to a Claremont Colleges proxy server or modem pool.

Business Research Guide This Subject Research Guide is a comprehensive, "hot linked" research guide that has been made specifically for research assistance for students in Business and Management. It is extensive, but has most information necessary to conduct business and management research.
