THE MICROFORMS COLLECTION

The Honnold/Mudd microform collection is located on the first floor of the Mudd building. Included in the collection are back issues of major newspapers and periodicals; publications from the U.S. government, British Parliament, and the United Nations; College and University Catalogs; Early American Periodicals Series; Early English books (University Publications of America Research Collections); and Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) publications are but some of the titles available. Some are cataloged in Blais, the on-line catalog, but not all.

NEWSPAPERS AND PERIODICALS: Newspapers and newspaper-style journals are in microfilm (roll film) format. These are located on the range of shelves in the center of the room and arranged alphabetically by title and by date.

Most magazine-type periodicals (Business Week, Time Magazine, etc.) are in microfiche (fiche) format. These are arranged alphabetically by title and by date in the large file cabinet located adjacent to the elevator which services both buildings, on the west wall of the microform room.

For holdings of newspapers and periodicals, please consult Blais before consulting the Government Publications and Microforms Reference Desk.

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CATALOGS: This collection includes both U.S. and foreign colleges and universities. The library maintains the current four years of the U.S. catalogs and updates the foreign catalogs every five years.

The catalogs are in microfiche format. They are arranged by the state in which the institution is located. There is an easy-to-sue index located by the microfiche.

CORPORATE AND INDUSTRY RESEARCH REPORTS: The library has CIRR holdings from 1985 to 1992 in fiche format. The collection included analytical research reports on companies, special industry reports such as articles on economics trends, and periodicals related to business and industry. A computerized CD-ROM search index is available on CD-ROM in the Reference Department. The collection ceased publication in 1992, however similar information is available in the other sources. Please consult with staff at the Honnold/mudd Search Center Reference Desk.

CORPORATION ANNUAL REPORTS: The library has Corporation Annual Reports from 1978 to 1992 in fiche format. This collection does not include Proxy and 10K reports. The collection is no longer current, however similar information is available in the other sources. Please consult with staff at the Honnold/mudd Search Center Reference Desk.

ERIC PUBLICATIONS: The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) microfiche are filed in boxes at the end of the collection. The microfiche are arranged by ED numbers (accession numbers), covering the years 1956 to present. The library subscribes to the documents, or ED-numbers, but not the journals, or EJ-numbers. We do however, have many of the EJ citations available through the journal collection. Although a paper index is available, the most efficient searching may be done on an ERIC CD-ROM available through the campus CD- ROM Network.

VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS IN MICROFORM FORMAT: Various publications in microfiche, roll film, and Congress classification numbers. Examples are; National Security Council Documents, FBI Files on the Black Panther Party, Hakluyt Society Publications, and Major Studies and Issue Briefs of the Congressional Research Service. To locate these publications, please use Blais, the on-line catalog for books to obtain the classification numbers. They are shelved following the newspapers.

U.S. GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS: The U.S. Government Printing Office started to distribute publications in microfiche format in 1972. These are arranged by the Superintendent of Documents Classification system (Sudoc) call numbers in the file cabinets at the center of the Microform Room. They include such varied publications as General Accounting Office (GAO) Reports, Congressional Hearings and Documents, Congressional Bills, and publications from the Foreign Broadcast Information Service. Inquire at the Government Publications Reference Desk for assistance.

MICROFORMS READERS AND READER/PRINTERS: Machines are available for both reading and/printing for microfilm, microfiche, and microcards. The cost to print is $.15 per page. Microform printers accept only Vendacards. The printers will not accept cash. Cards may be purchased at the Copy Center located on the first floor of the Mudd building. For help in the use of the Readers and Reader/Printers, please ask at the Microforms Desk.
