Reference & Instruction Services

The Libraries of The Claremont Colleges offer many opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to learn to use the wide range of library resources, traditional and electronic, available both within the Libraries and in dorms, offices, and computer centers through the campus network. Our reference and instruction services build on each other to instill an appreciation and provide the skills necessary for life-long learning.

Faculty may schedule an instruction session for classes or groups to focus on specific research interests.

Would you prefer to get assistance from a librarian, either in person, by email, or by phone?

Reference Hours at the Libraries. During these hours a librarian will be available to assist you in person or on the telephone.

Make an Appointment for in-depth research assistance by contacting the Subject Specialist for a particular subject. Email addresses and campus telephone numbers are provided.

Ask a Librarian is an email reference service for students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges. You will usually get a response within 24 hours.

Workshops & Tours help you become more comfortable with library research, whether you're on the web or in the library. These sessions are open to all individuals in The Claremont Colleges community.

Subject Research Guides identify some of the most important traditional and electronic resources available from the Libraries and provide an excellent starting point for student research.

Course Guides reinforce what you have learned in the library instruction session for a particular class.

Research Strategies & Tips provides assistance with library research basics like choosing a topic, developing a search strategy, finding books and articles, and evaluating information.

Databases, listed by title and subject, identify the most important databases in a wide range of subject areas.

Quick facts & ready reference provides connections to web sites that give you quick facts and ready reference information on a wide variety of topics.
